Slick Willie Returns? [Updated Jan28]

[UPDATE Jan 28: Sometimes, even tho the Herald is a NewsCorp ragmag mouthpiece of the GOP, does have funny stuff. And, of course, they love to show blowups between Democrats...to wit, their cover from today, below and this second WaPo piece]

Bill Clinton's unfair attacks on Obama over the past week have really started to hit the national airwaves now; politically it cant help but help Obama, but the amount of consternation the Dem establishment is showing really shows the fear that they dont want to mess this up. The lib blogs are starting to be all afire over these zingers.

NYT Analysis of Obama's SC Victory

Seems to sum it up, especially addressing the building meme out there that the Clintons took it too far with the negative attacks on Obama...some quotes:

He also has bragging rights about a new coalition of support. About as many South Carolina white men voted for Mr. Obama as for Mrs. Clinton, and about 70 percent of white voters said they would be satisfied if Mr. Obama won the Democratic nomination, according to exit polls was conducted by Edison/Mitofsky for the National Election Pool of television networks and the Associated Press.

*******
Last week, Clinton advisers believed Mr. Clinton was rattling Mr. Obama and drawing his focus away from his message of moving beyond the politics of the 1990’s and the Bush presidency. The results on Saturday indicated, instead, that voters were impressed with Mr. Obama’s mettle and agreed with him that the Clintons ran an excessively negative campaign here.

*****
South Carolina voters showed little taste for the Clintons’ political approach. They said in exit polls that their main concern was the economy; during an all-out campaign blitz on behalf of his wife here, Mr. Clinton spent the last week highlighting Mr. Obama’s record on Iraq and his recent statements about the transformational nature of Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

Mrs. Clinton’s advisers were minimizing the importance of South Carolina even before polls closed, saying the primaries in Florida on Tuesday and in the swath of states on Feb. 5 were more important. But she will have to reckon with the rejection of her candidacy by black voters and the mixed support she received from white Democrats and younger voters here — two groups that she must have by her side in order to build a cross-section of support in the coming contests.

“The Clintons will now have to deal with a perception of hollowness about her strategy, that she is leaving it to her husband to take care of things and allowing him to overshadow her political message,” said Blease Graham, a professor of political science at the University of South Carolina.

Could it Come Down to Superdelagates? [Updated]

Superdelegates are, of course, sitting House members and the like that are delegates beyond those that you win in the primary / caucus pr0cess...

Especially with the tools of Michigan voting for Romney, it seems very likely that the GOP convention could literally be a food fight between McCain, Huckabee, Romney & Rudy. I haven't looked, but with two 2nd's and a 1st place finish, does Romney technically lead in delegates?

Update 1/24: I found this link which promises to update on the delegates and especially the superdelegates for the Dem convention.

935 Bushie Iraq Lies

Only one comment (many other people are bloviating about this, so no need for me): no duh. We all knew that in 2003, those of us that we're paying attention. Thanks to the media for finally being neutral on the subject, you fucking shills!
*************************
Am aquaintance who is in the 911truth.org groups (note: I am NOT) sent me this which has all the links you could possibly want regarding the 935 lies...I reprint this as-is since it does have 911truth links imbedded in the email. Okay, after reading it, I did make some commentary below, in red.

Dear Friends,
As a responsible US citizen you must know, if you did not heard yesterday from AP, about an important study published Jan. 22, 2008. It was conducted by two nonprofit journalism organizations and posted by the Center for Public Integrity. You can see two articles on the study, pasted/linked herein below. The study found that during the period of October 2001 to August 2003, top officials in this Administration, including Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, issued 935 false statements [lies] about the national security threat posed by Iraq.

"In war, truth is the first casualty"; Aeschylus [Greek playwright] 450 BC, [repeated by US Senator Hiram Johnson, 1918 AD].

To summarize; Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz are now known to be liars. Not only that, but they lied about an issue of life and death, the basis for the Iraq War that has killed tens of thousands of innocent boys, girls, women and men, and maimed for life hundreds of thousands more. And the killing based on these lies continues today.

But wait a minute. Aren't these the same ones who told We the American People what happened on September 11, 2001? That 19 men, directed by Bin Laden from a cave, defeated the US Air Force, FAA, Air National Guard, FBI and CIA? That the Pentagon, the most-guarded airspace on the planet, with its own missle defense system, was easily penetrated by a commercial airliner? That three steel-framed towers [WTC1,2,7] collapsed at free-fall speed due to jet fuel fires, when no steel-framed buildings in the history of steel-framed buildings have ever collapsed before or since 9-11-01, due to fires? When WTC 1,2 were designed specifically to withstand a direct hit by a large jet plane? These stories, like the remaining other "official" stories of 9-11-01, are highly suspicious at best. Yet these stories, told by proven liars, continues to be the unchallenged basis for the "war on terror". What is up with that?

Do you think these men are lying about the basis of one war, but telling the truth about the basis of another war? Why do you continue to believe known liars? Please answer if you would.

A question from scripture: who is the Father of Lies? Then whose work does this Administration do? Is it God's work? Or is it the work of the Father of Lies? Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz lead our country to kill innocent people based on lies. Why do we allow the killing to continue? Hillary Clinton will not stop the killing and is the candidate most heavily funded by the US war industry. If we don't stand up against the killing it will continue and grow. The same liars are now lying about Iran's nuclear capacity so they can start bombing innocent Iranian boys, girls, women and men, this time killing millions because they want to drop nuclear bombs this time.

Please listen if you have ears. Why aren't innocent Iraqi lives important to us? 3,000 innocent people on 9-11-01 were important, over 3,000 US soldiers lives killed in Iraq are important, but the lives of our neighbors in Iraq do not matter? If they matter then we must stand up and stop the killing.

What to do? We must challenge the basis of all this killing: the basis for the unending war on terror. A radical war plan was made in 2000 by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Libby, Kristol, and others @ Project for a New American Century [PNAC] . PNAC continues to meet all of their goals [SE Asia, Iraq, Iran] because their foundation continues to be untouched: i.e. the event they called-for, that they said was critical to their success, the "New Pearl Harbor" [see p. 51 of PNAC plan], which is 9-11-01 [Jimboses-I dont believe the implication that the PNAC started 9/11 to get to this New Pearl Harbor, which is the premise of the 911truth campaign]. The first "investigation" of September 11, 2001 was a whitewash. We were lied to once again. We the People deserve a true investigation of 9-11-01 in order to stop the killing. Unless we demand that investigation PNAC will continue to get away with murder.

Cheney and the many PNAC minions have stated numerous times that another terror attack is coming to US soil. If this new attack is allowed to occur, like 9-11-01, it will be another false-flag operation, carried-out by Mossad [Jimboses - like I said, I dont believe that the USG teamed up with Mossad to make 9/11 happen, nor do I believe this statement here] with some US foreknowledge and blamed this time on Iran. Then the US will bomb and kill millions of innocent Iranians. The people and motives behind the killing are powerful: war profits, empire, oil, corporate-rule, near-absolute power at home [tyranny], and Israeli security.

We have all been badly mislead by the media monopoly on critical issues such as 9-11-01. We no longer have free press, no "fourth estate" our founders saw as critical to survival of our Republic, no informed citizenry. Since 1978, 50 major media companies have been consolidated into 10 media companies: a monopoly [Jimboses - 100% behind this statement]. Our beloved Republic is in peril.

We can stop the killing if we expose 9-11-01 for what it is, a false flag operation. Please consider joining the paramount struggle to expose 911Truth. Other links are Architects&Engineers for 911Truth.org and PatriotsQuestion911.com.

[Jimboses - the good stuff is below]
935 false statements on 532 occasions preceded war: study 23 Jan 2008 A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President [sic] Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements [lies] about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks. The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses." The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism. The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida [al-CIAduh] or both.

False Pretenses --Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. By Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith 23 Jan 2008 President [sic] George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President [sic] Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.

Friday Quick Hits

trying to get SOMETHING done today, but had to post these things:

* There's been a lot of talk amongst the talking class about why the polling on the dem side in NH was pretty much so wrong to say that Obama had a massive upswing to jet WAY past Hillary. Actually, he may have had a big swing up, but it only got him to within 3%...Anyways, two articles on this subject - a C&L vlog post about Chris Matthews shooting his mouth off and Tom Brokaw having to give him a little what-for; and this editorial from the T&G.

* The Big Picture turns me onto another blog that was just waiting for me to find...http://themessthatgreenspanmade.blogspot.com/ just amusing from the title; I'll have to look at this in more detail later...

This Just In: NBC Is Owned By Big Corporate Giant

This essay by John Hockenberry describes, more than likely, the internal workings that are not any more or less than the other major news outlets (ABC, CBS, CNN) despite what this kos diarist had to say, but figured that it was worth the read since John is one of the good guys in the biz...or used to be in the biz...
