From AMERICAblog: Gen. Pace is a Real Human Being

I'll just copy the relelvant parts here:

Great exchange between the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, who seems to be a normal, real, honorable human being - and then there's idiot Rumsfeld...

When UPI's Pam Hess asked about torture by Iraqi authorities, Rumsfeld replied that "obviously, the United States does not have a responsibility" other than to voice disapproval.

But [Chairman of the Joint Chiefs] Pace had a different view. "It is the absolute responsibility of every U.S. service member, if they see inhumane treatment being conducted, to intervene, to stop it," the general said.

Rumsfeld interjected: "I don't think you mean they have an obligation to physically stop it; it's to report it."

But Pace meant what he said. "If they are physically present when inhumane treatment is taking place, sir, they have an obligation to try to stop it," he said, firmly.

AMERICAblog: Bushie Sells Out To the Terrorists

The Bushies are such dimwits. They go house on Murtha (you remember Jean Schmidt?) with everybody, to the point that McClellan said that Murtha was "endorsing the policy positions of Michael Moore and the extreme liberal wing of the Democratic party." They also said some other silly things, like troop withdrawls were surrendering to the terrorists.

And now everybody, behind the scenes of course, is pushing troop withdrawls. So, I guess that the WH now likes terrorists. And so does Iraq, who essentially support the initial Murtha proposal.

Plus, they dont like media that doesn't play nice with the neo-cons, so they decide to bomb an Arab ally (Qatar) to take out Al-Jazeera. It took Tony Blair talking Shrub out of doing it.

James Wolcott: Call to Arms (Or, Why Dump Marc Maron?)

It is this show, and my 6 CD changer, that gets me through my commute every morning.

It is patently rediculous to remove him and damage the show. While I think that MArk Riley is a good guy and provides nice commentary, I dont think that he can carry the show. What are they planning to do? It's just silly.

Blog I'll Watch: Lawyers, Guns and Money

Found this while wandering around the blogosphere this Sunday morning. Seems an interesting read, especially since I have not written a cogent post in months, thanks to a confluence of events in my life. These days, seems the best I can do is regurgitate other posts.

Hopefully that will change at some point, but 10 hour days and a project that wont quit and a house that needs to be put together again ain't quitting anytime soon...

Think Progress » VIDEO: Schmidt’s Shame

Wow, this lady is definitely nutso. This is getting to be more and more like the Congress pre-civil war (you remember Charles Sumner being caned?).

Just atrocious.

[Additional info]: From a Kos post regarding the immediate retorts during the gaveling after Schmidt said those stupid things. they may be stricken from the record, but we've got the permanent tape:

From the AP:

Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., charged across the chamber's center aisle screaming that it was an uncalled for personal attack. "You guys are pathetic. Pathetic," yelled Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass.

Schmidt was forced to retract her comments, lest she be censured by the House leadership. House rules do not allow members to impugn the integrity of any other members.
